Final Reflection

 3/24

Overall, this whole production took a long time, and a lot of effort was put in to it. There were so many drawbacks to my project as well as some procrastination. but after all of this, I feel that I was able to utilize many of the skills that I learned throughout the school year before the start of this project.

Post-production

 3/22

I finished up both of my CCR's, for my first CR video which includes questions 1 and 2, I filmed it at home and edited images in on a simple video of me speaking. As for question 3 and 4, I went over to my friend's house and we recorded, we finished relatively fast and thankfully there were no drawbacks.

CCR PRODUCTION

 3/20

CCR production:

Today I went over to my friend's house to film my second CCR video. This video is themed as an interview, where my friend is hiring and I am answering the questions asked from the CCR. I am using my iPhone to film and her laptop to show her the script. I am planning to have multiple cuts and I have to teach my other friend how to film. We filmed for my video on CCR questions 3 and 4.

CCR question #3

3/14

This is the script for question #3 of the CCR.

For my second CCR video it will include questions #3 and #4, and this will include my friend doing an interview.

:Hi guys welcome back to the ___ interview show, today we are here with the producer of the film opening "Running Out of Time"

Alexis: Thank you for having me

:Of course, I have a few questions that i would like to ask

Alexis: Go on ahead

:Throughout the film, how was your skills on shots improving?

Alexis: Throughout the development of my production, I was able to utilize some of the shots and techniques that we learned and practiced throughout the duration of the year. These shots include long shots, the establishing shot, close ups, tight close ups, etc. Although there were previous projects in which I was able to practice using these shots this production really made me work at attempting to include all of these shots that I was educated about.

:Cool! And for the editing, how did that go?

Alexis: Once again, these previous projects I was able to practice my editing skills, but this called for something more difficult than that before. Aside from putting all of the clips together and ensuring that the clips, the sound, and the order of them all go together, I was required to make a film opening with credits. This means that I had to learn how to utilize the text on the editing software that I used, Adobe. I had to make sure that the credits were how I aspired it to look as well as fitting the film and the requirements.

:Overall, how did this entire production help your skills develop?

Alexis: This production was really eye opening as there was many things that was going wrong, and I was able to recognize the skills that I was utilizing. First of all, the hardest part of the entire project was simply getting everyone together, there were only five of us that were required to together, but nobodies schedule lined up. I was behind a week on filming because of this. We were also on a time crunch, which means that while attempting to film, I had to ensure that I was making use of the techniques that I was educated on throughout the school year.

CCR question #4

 3/14

This is the script for question #4 of my CCR

:How did you integrate software technologies into your production?

Me: I used an editing software, Adobe. This is how my whole production was able to come together as this was quite literally one of the most important parts, the editing.

:Why was this important to your project and HOW exactly was this editing software put to use?

Me: Without the usage of this software I would not have been able to put together all of my clips that I filmed and my production, would, well not be finished. I edited all my clips together making sure they were cut in the correct spots, and this software is also where I began entering the credits that is mandatory to include. Using Adobe my project was able to be edited and finished and hopefully meeting the requirements of what I was meant to do. All of my editing was done on this editing software.

:How was hardware integrated into your production?

Me: Well, it is not like I rented out any fancy cameras, or microphones, but I used my iPhone to record and create sounds.

:I see, what about the lighting?

Me: For the lighting, I also didn't exactly use any piece of equipment like a ring light or anything like that. No piece of equipment for filming was used other than my iPhone.

:Ok! and what about the online usage?

Me: Well, in order to get my film out I had to use google in order to be able to share the link

End with minimal changes

Group meeting #2

 3/12

Today is the second group meeting of this project. My group members are Lucia Trinidad, Rehan Khan, Candelaria Rush, and Sofia Brown. We all discussed how far into our project we stand, regarding the filming and editing of the film opening as well as the progress of our CCR thought processes. Candelaria was very well planned out and knew her idea for her CCR. Everyone else was still deciding including me, and we just continued to discuss our projects. Rehan displayed a photo of makeup done for his film and it was really impressive. We discussed our filming processes and how long it took to film, as well as how many clips we had. The same goes for the editing. This is a group photo of my group members!

Audio plan

 2/23

My plan for my audio is nothing specific. There is no choice of music as for now,
but I may use some sort of music that I am allowed to. For the sound effects I plan to mainly make them myself, so it really matches the scene. There will be constant dialogue.

For example he is creating his own sounds here.

Character Development

 2/20

This is my plan for my main characters character development.

I have decided to switch the roles and make the girl my main character. The film opening will begin with her being a happy, and joyful person without a care about other things besides her. Once she receives the unfortunate news she will contain her emotions and still keep a happy persona. Through the opening she will come to a realization how life can just suddenly be cut short, and to appreciate everything in life.

Mise-en-scene plan (props)

 2/18

Today I am planning on my mise-en-scene elements that will be used withing my film opening. For this post I will be discussing the props that I plan to use. First off, an iPhone will be important overall as that is where the unfortunate news will be delivered. I also want to incorporate some kind of pills, which I will fill an empty pill bottle with (soon to be decided) pills. These need to be realistic to the storyline I am aiming for. A few random props will be simple things, like the girl's purse, some papers, drinks, random sort of filler objects for the surroundings. I want to incorporate my polaroid camera to show my characters capturing and keeping memories together, to further push the storyline forward. This will include the polaroid camera (obviously) and some polaroid photos that show the two main characters in different settings. For the beach/pool scene (depending on what I end up using) there will be simple things like sunblock, sunglasses, hats, etc. These are some photos of some props I plan to use:

Mise-en-scene plan (Costumes)

 2/18

Today I am still working on the elements of the mise-en-scene for my film opening, and the other element that I have chosen to discuss are the costumes. My film opening includes daily life and nothing out of the ordinary, or supernatural. So, my costumes will be very basic and will be outfits that are worn out on a daily basis. For the girl, throughout the film opening she will be wearing cute outfits that include jeans/jean shorts and a selected top. As for the guy, I plan for him to also wear jeans or shorts of some kind with a graphic tee or colorful button up. Bathing suits are included in my costume planning as I do plan to include either a beach or a pool scene, so these are essential to capture the moment. Perhaps I will include a fancy dinner or a dinner date where they will both be wearing something fancy, like the girl wearing a dress, and the guy wearing a button-down dress shirt. The shoes will be regular shoes, like sneakers for daily wear, and open toed shoes for the scenes with water involved. This is an image of the jeans from the internet to create an image of what I plan to use.

Storyboard

2/16

This is my finished storyboard.

Media Theory Research

2/16

Today I researched and decided that the media theory I wish to integrate into my project is Todorov's Narrative Theory of Equilibrium. The reason I chose this theory is because I believe that it is the best fit for my project, as the characters in my film will be introduced, then the film will continue with events.

Tzvetan Todorov is the creator of this theory, and he created it in 1969. There are five different stages to this theory, including: equilibrium, disruption, recognition, resolution, and new equilibrium. The three parts that I learned about in class are the equilibrium, disequilibrium (disruption), and the new equilibrium.

An example of this is the film Moana (2018)

This goes through the stages of the theory I am researching, as there is a state of equilibrium, then disruption, and then a repairing stage, and a new equilibrium.

The way that I will use this, is that the way my storyline will go is I will have the main character speaking and her words coming true, then the disruption where the killer is sent to her because of her words, and finally she will find out what is going on and how she will fix it.

Project idea

 2/12

After a lot of thought, I decided that I will not be creating a horror film opening, but instead a sad romance film opening. The film will begin with a patient in a doctor's office, where he will receive the unfortunate news of only a month left to live. He takes the news and doesn't tell anyone about it and instead decides to spend the rest of his time with his significant other who wasn't informed about it. In the month that they spend time together they will slowly drift apart, and his girlfriend will ask to break up. The last part of my film opening will have them going on a walk together and he will suddenly collapse. That is how my film opening will end. Then the camera will pan around the surroundings where the credits will begin showing on the environment and objects around.

I take inspiration from the opening credits of the Deadpool movies.

Group meeting

 2/11

Bella: Red, black, a bit of gold and silver. Setting: House, at wood dining table.

Audrey: Alot of reds muted greens and blues. Setting: Possibly a house or Dad's bar.

Candelaria: Bright theming for main character, and a darker blue and red for the side character (Rival).
Sports drama, Setting:

Paula:

My group members include Bella Montanari, Audrey Pangalangan, Candelaria Rush, Paula Torres. Bella was the first to present her ideas and share her storyline. She seems ultimately pretty sure about what she is planning to do for her film. She wants to create a horror film which includes a woman who sets up a table and has sudden flashbacks to a bloody crime filled table. The credits will be shown on items which move throughout the opening. She plans that the main character, a chick, will be acted by her or one of her project group members. Candelaria Rush was the next person to present her ideas, her genre is going to be a sports drama, and it will include the permitted usage of a gymnasium. The main character is going to wear a bright colored leotards, and the antagonist of the story will be wearing a darker colored leotard that surrounds the red/white/blue color scheme. Then Audrey presented her ideas next, she wants to do a psychological horror film of someone who is going crazy, when someone socializes with the character a flash to a person with a piece of tape over their mouth is shown. Her location planned is either her father's bar or a house. With alot of reds, and muted greens and blues for her color scheme. This is our group.

Genre choices.

 2/5/2025

Currently, I have two genres in mind that I plan to use when creating my film opening. Between action and horror, I'm not sure which to choose. For horror, I am leaning towards this side because when viewing horror films I really like the suspense and eerie feeling that is created, ad the sense of mystery that is left which makes you continue to watch the full movie. Well, as for the "eerie" feeling I mentioned I would have to stick to a really certain type of horror, as there are different genres in the horror genre itself. Something that I think would be a fun choice would be to do an opening that is similar to scream. The opening of the movies Scream are iconic and suspenseful. I am a bigger fan of movies like crime horror and mysteries, rather than paranormal and surreal genres.

This image is an example of the genre of horror films that I take inspiration from.

The other genre that I am really considering is an action film, a movie that I enjoy watching a lot are the Michael Bay Transformers movies. Something that I enjoy when watching action movies is the intense opening as well as the usage of many special effects and props. Maybe an action movie that disregards the mass amount of CGI usage and is recreate able for me would be great.

Portfolio Project.

 2/5/2025

Today is the day that I move forward with my portfolio project, from this moment on my blog posts will now be about my portfolio project and include all the steps taken throughout the way. Recently, film openings were shown and taught to my class and I. I then researched and watched various film openings which gave me a better understanding of what they are and the purpose of the film openings, Aswell as how they develop the beginning of the film. I took notes as directed on the near pod and watched the many film openings provided.

This is the Jaws opening that I clearly recall viewing as well as this Scream opening. I really enjoyed the suspense that I saw in the scream movie as well as the Jaws opening scene, I am considering doing something similar, or maybe an action film opening. Something that I really enjoyed was not knowing what was going to come next, but also the lots of movement and storyline being built happening, i want to do something just like this.

Music Marketing Project

My group's chosen band name is "Crepitus," meaning loud noise in Latin. Our brand identity includes the representation of real life mental scenarios that people go through. Such as depression, alcoholism, drug addiction, and eating disorders. This relates to our music because our characters use music as an escape and as a way to help them improve mentally. I researched about promotion techniques and execution, and worked on the background of the brand identity. We created a schedule which included the format of how we are going to produce the music video. We plan to create scenes where it represents the true look of all of the scenarios we chose.

Sound

 Sound project

During the lesson on sound in class I learned about different types of sound in film making. How sound makes a huge difference in film production, giving dimension, emotional impact, complement visuals, and helps with viewer perception. The different types of sounds I learned about is synchronous sound, asynchronous sound, diegetic, nondiegetic, sound motif, sound perspective, sound bridge, and voiceover. I also learned about foley sounds, which are sounds that are made subsequent to the actual filming of the movie. They are made with different items or objects than actually used when filming. The directions for the Sound project were to create a 1–2-minute video, with no actual video being shown, to create a short film only using sound. We worked in partners, and had to create 4 of our own foley sounds. During editing, layering the sounds that we found was essential to create the effect of an actual scene going on. During brainstorming, I was thinking about something interesting that can be created and obvious to the listener to know what our scene is. At first, we chose a flight to New York City, but all of the things we had laid out was not possibly able to happen in the actual span of 1-2 minutes. My partner and I then decided on a plane crash, but that was going to be hard to depict, so we decided on a zombie attack. We then planned out the storyline, then the sounds that we would use and every sound that would be happening in that moment. Our outline helped with our sounds as we knew what sounds to pick and choose at each moment. The editing resource I used was Adobe Premiere, I believe that our video was decent, but there could definitely be improvements. When filming our foley sounds outside of the trees rustling, we didn't realize that in the background there were many daytime birds chirping, which was unrealistic to our scene which was at night, in a cemetery.
